This work is a pastiche composed of fragments of several operas recently performed at Versailles, such as those of Astrée, Ænée and Lavinie, Canent, Aréthuse, Médée, Carnaval de Venise, d’Ariane, Circé, Fétes galantes and Ulysse. It drew its plot from François Fénelon's popular didactic novel Les Aventures de Télémaque (1699). Performers included Marie-Louise Desmatins, Mlle Maupin (Julie d’Aubigny, known as La Maupin), Jacques Cochereau.
